New Year’s Resolutions with McDonald’s
(This blog post is sponsored by McDonald’s to help bring awareness to the $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu and current 1-2-3 That’s a Meal! sweepstakes but all thoughts are completely my own. You can learn more about my disclosure policy here.)
This year I’ve decided I’m going to do my best to take better care of myself; one cup of coffee at a time! Kidding! Well, sort of.
As a mom, it’s so easy to forget to indulge in simple pleasures like hot espresso, dark chocolate, or a kid friendly meal.
So often I end up feeling burnt out because I’ve been investing all my time and energy into my family and not spending any time on myself. Well, that’s all going to change starting now!
I’ve decided that 2018 is the year that I will love myself to the fullest.
I recently dove into a partnership with McDonald’s and while contemplating our collaboration I was forced to think about the year to come and decided I need to make a few changes. I didn’t want to write a whole long list of “resolutions” that I knew I wouldn’t stick to, you know, like work out daily or eat more spinach. Instead I settled on three completely attainable New Year’s Resolutions:
- Drink more espresso
- Date my husband
- Find the value in everything
And how exactly has McDonald’s influenced my new year’s resolutions? Why thank you for asking, I’d love to share!
Let’s Start with My Caffeine Addiction
McDonald’s recently brought back their dollar value menu with $1, $2, and $3 options – woot woot! And while pursuing their new menu options I realized that I can get any small McCafé Espresso Beverage for just $2! Now I know this doesn’t seem like much to most people, but when you’re a mom on a budget, a $2 café-quality espresso beverage means a lot! We all know that those-who-shall-remain-nameless like to charge a mini fortune for a latte (come on people! That’s ridiculous!) so I’m not always able to indulge in this simple pleasure because my budget won’t allow it. Well, thanks to McDonald’s bringing back a national value menu, I’m going to make this a year of budget-friendly caffeine splurges!
I mean how often do you pack up your kids in the car and wish that you could be sipping a nice, calming cup of espresso but don’t have the budget to spare!? Well mamas, let me just say that your caffeine addiction is more affordable than ever! I mean who can’t scrounge up $2 spare change somewhere in that minivan?
Go on More Dates!
I am a firm believer that women need to continue to date their husbands -always, end of story. Before I was ever a mother, I was a girlfriend and a wife. My husband and I had 6 years together, before we had Zeke, so to say we got more than our fair share of time together is an understatement. But that doesn’t mean that the change wasn’t hard. I know there were times when my husband felt/feels like I don’t have time or energy for him; and he’s right.
Being a mom is the most rewarding and taxing job I’ve ever held. I often don’t take the time to lavish my husband with the love he deserves either. So again, this year I’m getting my priorities straight!
I have decided to shoot for at least one date night out a month and one date night in. I know that doesn’t seem like much, but when you’re as busy as we are, sometimes even two date nights can be a struggle! Sometimes though we like to get in our car, grab some cheeseburgers and soft drinks from McDonalds, and just spend some time reconnecting while we cruise. Simple and yet oh so sweet!
(Also, on a side note, McDonald’s has an awesome sweepstakes going on right now to celebrate the $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu, and I’m just saying, if I win one of their packages, we’re doing dates nights right! I’ll share more on this after my third resolution.)
Find Value in Everything
Lastly, I felt inspired to add this phrase to my list because as I perused the McDonald’s new $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu I realized how often I overlook the little things.
I’m so quick to look at the big moments or memories as special rather than seeing the beauty in everyday life. This year, I want to savor the little moments just like I’ve listed above; a cup of my favorite espresso, a stolen moment with my husband. Because it’s these moments that make life truly special.
Basically my goals boil down to this:
- Love myself
- Love my husband
- Love everyone!
Because if you’re not loving yourself first, you won’t have love to give to others.
So here’s to the New Year, a fresh start, oh! And crossed fingers that I score one of the prize packages McDonald’s is dishing out!
To help celebrate the launch of their new $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu, McDonald’s is hosting the 1-2-3 That’s a Meal! sweepstakes which has winner’s choice of three amazing prize packages up for grabs! Package number one is a season of stadiums; that means 7 regular season tickets across the country for your favorite sport and travel to get you there! Package number two is more than 20 of the top gaming consoles with games for each; an epic gaming library for sure! And the third prize package in the sweepstakes is VIP tickets to 5 premier music festivals along with travel and lodging for each of the festivals *mic drop*. Are those not amazing!?
Of course I know my husband would go for the first or second prize package and I’d want the third; eh, who am I kidding!? If I was lucky enough to win any of these I’d be on cloud nine!
